Today I was given some remains of a crashed Spitfire from world war two, well it was built I understand towards the end of the war, it crashed in 1946 at a place called Slindon in west Sussex, location in a area known as Nore Wood.
Precise location I cannot reveal, but when I was looking at the remains of this fighting machine, it did make me think about the pilot, I understand he was killed in the crash, It will be easy to find out his name as it is a documented crash, but nevertheless very interesting.
Many of us have seen footage of Spitfires flying, how they saved us! But to handle bits of one does make well me feel humble, why I don’t know, perhaps it is because my own Father was a fighter pilot, a connection, I find this just as interesting as finding say a coin from the roman period, or some other type of remains from the past, all have a human story to tell.
I have posted a picture of some of the remains, but there is a lot more.
